Woods' sales grad Backdoor Kenny gave freshman sire Half Ours got his first career stakes winner Aug. 6 at Mountaineer Park with a resounding 5 1/4-length win in the $85,000 Mountaineer Juvenile S. Consigned by Eddie Woods to the OBS select 2-year-old sale this past March, Backdoor Kenny was sold for $85,000 to trainer James DiVito, who signed the ticket for his owner Doubledown Stables Inc.
Backdoor Kenny made all the running in the six furlong Juvenile. Setting a blistering pace of :21.26 seconds for the quarter mile and :44.16 for the half, the chestnut colt opened up a three length lead on the turn. He continued to pour it on in the stretch to finish as much the best in 1:10.92.
Already stakes placed at Prairie Meadows, Backdoor Kenny is now 2-0-1 in three starts with earnings of $74,140. He was bred in Kentucky by Ron Kirk and Poplar Hill Equine from the unraced Orientate mare Internal Affair. She is a half-sister to the stakes winners Mountain Range and Royal Vindication.
