Woods sales product Hunt Crossing powered to victory in the $132,362 Monmouth NATC Futurity on September 24 to give the 2-year-old his first stakes win and second victory in three starts. Woods consigned the colt to the Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale this March, where he brought a final bid of $285,000.
The bay colt from the first crop by Corinthian took command at the top of the stretch and stormed clear for a three-length score in the mud under Elvis Trujillo.
Hunt Crossing debuted at Saratoga with a four-length victory on Aug. 3rd for trainer Todd Pletcher, then was unplaced in the Grade 1 Hopeful after a troubled trip.
Hunt Crossing had no such trouble in the Futurity, breaking alertly then assuming a stalking position between rivals. He made his move on the far turn from the outside, and once in front, the win was never in doubt. Final time over the muddy strip was an excellent 1:10.51.
Bred in Kentucky by Mount Joy Stables, Hunt Crossing is out of the stakes-winning mare Silver Lace, by Silver Deputy.
Rattlesnake Bridge third in $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G2)
Rattlesnake Bridge, another Woods' sales grad, was a good third in the Pennsylvania Derby (G2) at Parx Racing on Sept. 24. The 3-year-old was the highest price colt sold at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale in May, bringing $450,000 from Steve Young, agent. Woods sold the Kentucky bred as the agent for breeders William Graves and Dennis Lynch.
The $100,000 payday from the Pennsylvania Derby upped his lifetime earnings to $463,300 and a record of 2-3-1 from seven starts for his owner Mill House. Prior to the Parx race, Rattlesnake Bridge was second in the Grade 1 Travers S. and won the $165,000 Long Branch S. at Monmouth Park.
