Maram, the undefeated Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner of a year ago, made her sophomore debut August 8th at Saratoga, and the former Eddie Woods trainee picked up right where she left off by winning the $74,000 John Hettinger S. to remain perfect.

Sent off as the favorite in the one-mile turf stakes, Maram rallied to take control in the stretch and win by half a length. She stopped the clock in 1:34.75 over a firm course, earning a solid 90 Beyer Speed Figure in her comeback.

Now 4-of-4, the dark bay daughter of Sahm moved her bankroll to $788,520 for owners Saud bin Khaled and Karen Woods. Trained by Chad Brown, Maram had last been seen winning the Breeders’ Cup in a thrilling stretch finish – the final race of a perfect 2-year-old campaign that made her a finalist for the Eclipse Award.

Before reaching the racetrack, Maram was raised, broke and trained by Woods in Ocala.
