Curlin's Voyage became the latest graded stakes winner from the Eddie Woods training program when the 2-year-old filly was awarded the top spot in the $125,000 Mazarine S. (G3) on Oct. 5 at Woodbine.

The John Sikura homebred crossed the wire two lengths behind Skygaze, but was named the winner after Skygaze drifted in front of the official winner in mid-stretch, causing her to take up sharply and costing her any shot at the win.

Prior to the homestretch trouble, Skygaze set off for the lead at the break, with Curlin's Voyage settling several lengths from the front around the first bend. The Curlin filly began to gain ground entering the final bend and was just to the outside of Skygaze entering the stretch. The pacesetter began to drift out substantially, causing Curlin's Voyage to take back and leaving her out of time to re-rally. The stewards ultimately named her to the winner in what was her graded stakes debut.

Curlin's Voyage actually placed in stakes in her first two starts before breaking her maiden by nearly five lengths on Sept. 8. Trained by Josie Carroll, she is now 2-1-1 in four starts and has earned $135,238.

“Certainly that’s a race that I’m sure we’ll be looking at,” said Carroll of the $225,000 Princess Elizabeth S . on Oct. 26 at Woodbine. “(Hill ‘n’ Dale master) John Sikura breeds such a good horse that it would be really nice to get something like that done for him.”
