Eddie Woods Stables training grad Nash turned in quite a performance in winning the $200,000 Hot Springs S. March 23 at Oaklawn Park, rolling home to a 5 ½-length victory in the one-mile race for 3-year-olds.

The Godolphin homebred placed in both the Gun Runner S. and LeComte S. (G3) at Fair Grounds over the winter prior to Saturday’s emphatic victory.

Nash, under Florent Geroux, was unhurried out of the gate and tracked in fourth while well off the rail around the first turn and onto the backstretch. Carbone carved out a half-mile in :47.64, with Nash still about five lengths from the front. Midway on the final bend Nash began to advance and swept by the field turning for home. He quickly sprinted clear and was wrapped up late to get the distance in 1:38.49 on a fast track.

“I think we know what he wants, a little bit shorter in distance, a middle distance (than the 1 1/16-mile LeComte). I would say a flat mile, seven-eighths. But a flat mile would hit him right between the eyes for what he wants.”

The victory elevated Nash’s earnings to $264,500 and record to 2-3-1 from six starts.
