Eddie Woods training graduate and multiple Graded stakes winner Regal Glory registered a Grade 1 victory in impressive fashion on Sunday, Nov. 28, leading wire-to-wire to take down the top prize in the $400,000 Matriarch S. (G1) at Del Mar. It was the fourth Graded stakes score for the Kentucky-bred daughter of Animal Kingdom.

Trained by Chad Brown for owner Peter Brant, Regal Glory sped to the front at the start of the one-mile turf test and was never seriously challenged. She turned for home full of run and drew out late to win by 2 ½ lengths, defeating a contentious field. She stopped the clock in 1:35.33 with Jose Ortiz aboard.

“I thought I’d have the lead and thought I was the only real speed in the race,” Ortiz said. “We got away with some easy fractions and then she had lots for the finish”

All told, Regal Glory has now amassed career earnings of $1,244,884 and has won nine of 15 lifetime starts; she has also placed in four others. In addition to the Matriarch, Regal Glory has also annexed the 2020 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf S. (G3), and the 2019 Lake Placid S. (G2) and Lake George S. (G3) at Saratoga. She is produced from the multiple Graded stakes-winning More Than Ready mare Mary’s Follies, an earner of $338,889.
