Shahama rolled past Juju’s Map at the top of the stretch and drew clear to win the $250,000 Monmouth Oaks (G3) by 2 ½-lengths over a late-closing Shotgun Hottie on July 31.

The 3-year-old filly, who began her career in the UAE for trainer Fawzi Nass, won this year’s UAE Oaks (G3) in February before joining the Todd Pletcher barn following that race.

Juju’s Map took the early lead, with Shahama tailing her through a half-mile in :48.71 and six furlongs in 1:11.88. Shahama made a swooping move to take the lead coming into the stretch, then pulled away smartly to finish the 1 1/16-miles in 1:41.54.

"We thought (Juju’s Map) would be on the lead and we would be sitting second, and that's just how it played out," said Anthony Sciametta, who handles Pletcher's division at Monmouth Park. "She's been training in New York and shipped down for this Saturday afternoon and did well and was well behaved. I know everyone who is around her likes her. She has a lot of class, as you can tell.”

Shahama, owned by KHK Racing, is now 5-1-0 in seven starts and has earned $435,984.

The Kentucky-bred filly was purchased by Nass for $425,000 at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-olds in Training from the Eddie Woods consignment.
