Westrock Stables' Secret Compass broke her maiden in a big way Saturday in Santa Anita Park's $250,000 Chandelier S. (G1) for 2-year-old fillies.

The winner of the 1 1/16-mile contest, which was known as the Oak Leaf S. prior to 2012, was sold by Eddie Woods at this April's OBS Select 2-year-old sale for $425,000 to Westrock and trainer Bob Baffert. The winner gives Woods six graded juvenile sales grad winners this year, tops for all North American sales consignors.

Secret Compass, ridden by Rosie Napravnik, got away well and found herself just a couple lengths off the lead, in fourth, around the first turn. Napravnik bided her time down the backstretch, then set her sights on She's a Tiger, who had shaken loose to lead by three lengths.

Secret Compass cut into the lead resolutely, getting on even terms inside the sixteenth pole, and ultimately winning by a head.

"She was disappointing at Del Mar (fourth in the seven furlong, Grade 1 Debutante), but today she had to gut it out down the stretch. I always thought she'd be better going two turns," said Baffert, who added that the filly will be pointed to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), also at Santa Anita on Nov. 1.

Secret Compass picked up $150,000 for the victory, padding her bankroll to $216,120.
