Eddie Woods sales grads Bitumen and Random Walk completed the exacta in Saturday's $150,000 Sanford S. (G3) for 2-year-olds.
Both colts were TDN Rising Stars following their debuts, with Bitumen the even-money favorite over 8-5 Random Walk in the Sanford. Random Walk got in an early three-way tussle for the lead, while Bitumen sat several lengths off the dueling front-runners. Random Walk emerged with the lead at the top of the stretch, but Bitumen came rolling on the outside and came home a 1 3/4-length winner over Random Walk.
Bitumen, owned by Joseph Sutton, was a $280,000 purchase from Eddie Woods' consignment at this year's OBS March Sale. Random Walk, owned by Ralph Evans, was sold by Woods for $300,000 at the same sale.
Dacita takes Diana S. (G1)
Woods' Saturday Saratoga success didn't end with the Sanford. A couple hours later, Woods training grad Dacita (CHI) captured her third career graded stakes win in the grassy $500,000 Diana S. (G1).
The 5-year-old mare, owned by Sheep Pond Partners and Bradley Thoroughbreds, has earned $967,361 in 15 lifetime starts.
The Woods operation is currently the leading 2-year-old consignor of 2016, with gross receipts of $15,331,500 and an average of $138,122.
