Eddie Woods training grad Forza Di Oro powered past Monday Morning Qb in mid-stretch en route to a 3 3/4-length victory in Saturday's $100,000 Discovery S. (G3) at Aqueduct.

The 3-year-old son of Speightstown was making his fifth lifetime start and just his second this year after his Oct. 9 return in an allowance victory. The Don Alberto Stable homebred is now 3-1-0 and has earned $148,875.

When Monday Morning Qb shot to the lead out of the gate, Junior Alvarado eased Forza Di Oro to the fence just behind the pacesetter. He held his position all the way to the top of the stretch, when he swung off the fence and soon surged by the early leader to draw off convincingly.

The final time for the 1 1/8- miles on a fast track was 1:50.03.

“I was pretty happy the whole way around. I knew what I had underneath and whatever position I was in, he’d be there for me. He makes my job easier,” said Alvarado, who has been aboard for all five of the colt's starts. “He broke nicely today and after that he put me in the spot where we wanted to be. It was the first time for him being on the inside like that and when we started moving forward, he hesitated a little bit, but after a few jumps, he knew what to do and went by the other horse.”

Trained by Bill Mott, Forza Di Oro is out of stakes winner Filare l'Oro and is a half-brother to multiple graded winner Silver Dust.
