Moanin, a 4-year-old son of Henny Hughes set a new track record in Sunday’s February S. (G1) at Tokyo Racecourse, getting the 1,600 meters in 1:34 flat over heavy going.

The win was the sixth in seven starts for the chestnut colt, who Eddie Woods consigned to the 2014 OBS Selected Sale of 2-year-olds, where he brought a winning bid of $335,000 from Emmanuel de Seroux’s Narvick International on behalf of his client Yukio Baba.

“I was aware of his strength and had every confidence in him so I`m truly happy we were able to win,” said winning rider Mirco Demuro. “The trainer warned me of his bad breaks, but he actually jumped fine and after we were positioned well, I knew the title was ours. I’m glad that he stretched well in spite of losing concentration a bit after taking the lead rather early in the straight.”

Moanin, who had been favored in each of his first six starts, has now earned $1,729.712.
