Whitmore flew through an opening along the fence at the top of the Saratoga stretch to propel himself to a 1 1/2-length victory in the Forego S. (G1) Aug. 25 at Saratoga, the first Grade 1 win for the 5-year-old who has more than $2 million in career earnings.

Whitmore was both a Eddie Woods training grad and offered up at sale on two occasions. He has been brilliant throughout his career for co-owners Robert LaPenta, Southern Springs Stables and Head of Plains Partners, winning six graded races, winning or placing in 19 of 24 lifetime starts, and placing in three Triple Crown prep races.

In the Forego, Whitmore was tucked inside behind a wall of horses for the first five furlongs. It wasn't until the top of the stretch when Heartwood drifted off the rail, allowing Whitmore to shoot through and take command. City of Light gave pursuit in the stretch, but was no match for the winner, who covered the seven furlongs in 1:21 2/5 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 104.
